Mini Golden Retrievers Breed Overview

The mini golden retriever is a hybrid/designer breed that originates from crossing a golden retriever with a ruby-colored cavalier King Charles spaniel, and sometimes a small percentage of mini poodle. Ideal size is 25-30 lb as adults. Although because it’s a mixed breed the size can still vary quite a bit, from 20 lb up to 50 or on rare occasions up to 60 lb. Combining the outoorsy temperament of the golden retriever with the personal devotion temperament of the cavalier makes for the ultimate loyal family dog that loves the outdoors but also enjoys hanging out on the couch or spending a lazy day at the park. (or beach) Most mini goldens love the water. This excellent temperament also makes for an excellent emotional support or therapy dog. Their color usually consists of all the normal shades of light golden to dark red of the standard golden retriever, with occasionally some added white markings that may come from the cavalier. Coat pattern is normally tighter than a golden retriever so light to medium shedding. They need minimal grooming, mostly an occasional brushing to keep any matting from starting, overall a very low maintenance coat.
